How to make a perfect Amaretto Sour

Have your rocks glass ready with ice cubes in it. Pour all the ingredients into your shaker. An Amaretto Sour contains egg white and should therefore be dry shaken before shaking with ice. Therefore, close the shaker without adding ice and shake it while holding it firmly. Open the shaker, add ice, close it and shake it again. Strain the contents of the shaker into your cocktail glass. The result of your dry shake should appear as a delicious layer of foam on top of the cocktail. Garnish the cocktail with a lemon wedge and serve.

The History of Amaretto Sour

In the 1960s, Disaronno (formerly Amaretto di Saronno) expanded their amaretto liqueur to the United States. According to an entry in "The Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails" by Portland bartender Jeffrey Morgenthaler, the American importer of Disaronno introduced the Amaretto Sour recipe to America in 1974 as a way to raise awareness of the liqueur.
